A BPUs or Business Process Utility is a managed service solution that is simplifies customers’ management of standardized processes and enables unified technology platforms.   Thousands of companies are springing up to provide these services on a modular basis -  processes like expense claim or vendor invoice processing and reconciliation.  It has been estimated that only 10% of business processes that could be digitized are actually automated.

During an economic downturn, companies are eager to outsource via this “process on-demand” source particularly in areas that are not considered part of their core competencies.   BPUs in new service areas are springing up all the time.   Traditional services like finance and accounting are now joined by HR, e-learning, marcomm, research and analytics and facility management.

What processes are left to be packaged for delivery as this “utility” approach?  What platform or technology developments are key to the further expansion of BPUs?   Listen to a BPU CEO, a platform developer and investor talk about trends and opportunities.   Panelists Greg Flynn from Genpact, Sukh Grewal of Grey Wall Software, creator of Veoci, and David Pennino of LogicSource will discuss BPUs from the standpoint of investment and strategic planning, internal growth and development and operations management. Bill Perrone of Wiggin and Dana will moderate the panel.
