Balanced Leadership® Overview         July 10–11, 2012  

This session is designed to increase participants’ knowledge and understanding of the concepts of principal leadership, shared leadership, and balanced leadership as well as the Balanced Leadership Framework.

Developing a Purposeful Community       July 12–13, 2012  

In this highly interactive session, participants engage in a variety of hands-on learning experiences that promote a deep understanding of the importance of developing a positive school culture in their school, or what we call “a purposeful community."

Managing Change        July 16–17, 2012  

Learn how to initiate, monitor, and lead change effectively. Receive practical guidance for leading straightforward “first-order” changes as well as more challenging “second-order” changes.

The Focus of Leadership        July 18–19, 2012

School leaders learn the best leverage points for improving student achievement and how to select improvement initiatives that will result in better student learning and overall school improvement.

Recommendations : Participants are encouraged to read McREL’s ASCD publication, School Leadership that Works: From Research to Action before any and all sessions as well as What Works in Schools: Translating Research into Action (ASCD, 2003) and Classroom Instruction that Works: Research-based Strategies for Increasing Student Achievement  (ASCD, 2001) before The Focus of Leadership session. Participants are also encouraged to attend the Balanced Leadership Overview session before attending Developing a Purposeful Community, Managing Change, or the Focus of Leadership.

Tuition: $1595 for all four sessions: Overview, Purposeful Community, Managing Change, and Focus of Leadership (a savings of $385)  or $495 per person for individual sessions.
