Autism diagnosis is on the rise. About 10% of school age children are diagnosed with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder.  Sensory processing disorders are increasingly being recognized . And due to changes in diagnostic criteria, greater public awareness, and advances in research, identification of developmental and  learning disabilities is happening at an earlier age. All of this leads to more students with special needs integrated into  classrooms with their typical peers.

You can see why training on this topic is in high demand as more students and adults move into regular schools and community settings where increased and improved services are now available.

Additionally, studies indicate that nutrition plays a significant role in academic success.  This webinar will explain how  limitations in functioning in those with disabilities can lead to nutritional concerns and health issues. Tasting strategies that can increase students’ acceptance of nutritious foods will be suggested.

About the Presenter:

  

Michelle F. Brill, MPH, a Family & Community Health Sciences Educator and Assistant Professor with Rutgers Cooperative Extension, has nine years of teaching experience in a school exclusively for students with developmental disabilities. A NJ Certified Teacher of Health Education, she creates and delivers professional programs on working with individuals who have autism and other developmental disabilities. She also developed a Learning Institute on teaching sex education to children with special needs.
