Mt Rainier & Mt Saint Helens

MtStHelensScience is best learned through hands-on experiences and field studies; and the Pacific Northwest offers some of the best geology and montaine environmental "lab experience" in the world. 

Don't miss this opportunity to help your students pique their scientific curiosity and grow their appreciation of the Creator's  intelligent design through this great learning adventure.  

Itinerary:   

  • May 17  Meet @ Longmire, Mt Rainier National Park.  Day's focus: glaciers & subalpine ecology, travel to Paradise to Visitor's Center, optional hiking Wonderland Trail, travel to Castle Rock, check into motel, potluck dinner @ 7 Wonders Museum and evening program Ape Caves tour
  • May 18 Academy NW instructor-led explorations and field studies on southside of St Helens:  Ape Caves, Lava Canyon, and Trail of Two Forests.  Day's focus:  geological effects of volcanic activity + evening debriefing & program.
  • May 19 Lloyd Anderson, director of 7 Wonders Museum, will lead field studies on westside of St. Helens; option to Johnston Ridge observatory.  Day's focus:  examining the recovery from 5/20/80 eruption and scientific evidence supporting the Genesis explanation of creation.

Cost:  $45/family if registered by 5/1; $65/family after 5/1.  For an individual student attending with another family: $25/individual if registered by 5/1; $35/individual after 5/1. 

Pre-trip packet:  information and readings, plus pre & post trip activities for students working on science lab credit will be emailed upon receipt of registration.  Also, each family will receive a park fee waiver so the additional costs will only be for lodging, food,  and transportation.
