In a spirit of cooperation and an interest in strengthening relations with women’s groups in Cuba, the League of Women Voters of Florida Education Fund sponsors delegation visits to Cuba to learn about the social structure and build relationships with civic organizations and academics at the University of Havana. These visits to Cuba are an important step toward improving relations and building partnerships with our neighbor to the south. The social and economic rewards of these visits can be of mutual benefit and may lead to a better understanding after decades of isolation.
Travel to Cuba is restricted by the Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) of the U.S. department of Treasury. Each participant must be in compliance with the license travel issued by OFAC. Under the leadership of LWVF Director and former state Representative Annie Betancourt, three League delegations have successfully traveled to Cuba, meeting some of the most fascinating people, exploring some of the most historic and interesting places, and learning more about the education, health care, and life of the Cuban people. The next delegation visit is scheduled for March 5-11, 2012 and the costs are as follows:
These costs include hotel, airfare, travel and activities during the trip, and some meals. For more information and to register for Sisters Across the Straits, please contact Benjamin Evans at LWVFevents@gmail.com.
