THRIVE Westside Action Summit

For the last two months, community members from across Santa Barbara's Westside have been meeting in small groups to build relationships and identify ways to improve their community.  Students, parents, neighbors, and service providers have all come together to talk about the challenges they face, the assets they have, and the future they wish to create together.
On Saturday, January 21st, these groups will come together to share their ideas, choose the strategies they want to implement, and create action plans to turn their ideas into reality.
Ideas so far include:
  • improving police-community relations through dialogue and collaboration
  • creating a Westside Zocalo or town center where the diverse residents of the Westside can come together
  • a women's resource center where women can talk about the challenges and joys of motherhood, receive legal advice, and more
  • improving lighting
  • strengthening businesses / economic development
  • improving Bohnett Park
  • improving services to youth
  • building a community swimming pool
  • addressing gangs and bullying
  • and more
From 2pm to 4pm the general public is invited to join the summit, hear more about the ideas the groups have come up with, and join an action team to turn these ideas into action.
You are invited because you are (1) a community leader who may be able to support or assist these teams in implementing their ideas and/or (2) you are a Westside resident who may be interested in joining one of these teams.
The event will take place at the Boys and Girls Club on the Westside at  602 West Anapamu St.  On street parking is available in the neighborhood.  In addition, shuttles will run between the parking lot at Shoreline Community Church (935 San Andres Street  Santa Barbara, CA 93101-4315) and the Boys & Girls Club at the following times:
  • Church to Boys & Girls Club:  1:30 pm to 1:50pm
  • Boys & Girls Club to Church: 4:15pm to 5:15pm
