A Big Event Update: We will be hosting an auction during our Kickoff Celebration and have some fabulous items up for sale including the following:
In February 2011, we found out, almost accidentally, that March was Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. In looking into it further, we discovered that Colorectal Cancer was the second leading cancer killer and that it took almost as many women as breast cancer. We also learned that the amount of awareness and fundraising for Colorectal Cancer paled in comparison to most of the other cancers, especially breast cancer and prostate cancer. About 150,000 people will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer in the US this year. About 50,000 will die from this very treatable disease. There is still a stigma that colorectal cancer is an "old man's disease" and the word colonoscopy is a punchline. Too often, too many find out too late or don't get the proper care. We have decided to do something about it.
In the past year, David has taken his message on the road to anyone that will listen. Get screened once you turn 50. If there is a family history of cancer, get screened earlier. Be your own advocate. In the 2012 Colondar, the fundraising calendar for the Colon Club, Dave (Mr. January) was given the title of Resilient. That nickname seems to resonate with our message: Living in a world with Colon Cancer isn't easy. You get some scars along the way. Maybe you lose a little luster. Sometimes you even lose a piece or two. But everyday you get up, put your boots on and do you what you gotta do. You work, you play, you love, you laugh, you fight and at the end of the day you Kick back and do it all again tomorrow. That's resiliance. That's AliveAndKickn.
We hope you can join us on Thursday, March 29th where we will be Kickn it up for the first time. We also hope you can donate, sponsor us, "like" us on Facebook, follow us on Twitter or purchase some AliveAndKickn schwag. Help us tell the story and make a difference.
Join us. Be AliveAndKickn!
