About our Speakers

Michael J. Mauboussin is Chief Investment Strategist at Legg Mason Capital Management. Prior to joining LMCM in 2004, Michael was a Managing Director and Chief U.S. Investment Strategist at Credit Suisse. Michael joined CS in 1992 as a packaged food industry analyst. He is a former president of the Consumer Analyst Group of New York and was repeatedly named to Institutional Investor's All-America Research Team and The Wall Street Journal All-Star survey in the food industry group.  Michael is the author of Think Twice: Harnessing the Power of Counterintuition and More Than You Know: Finding Financial Wisdom in Unconventional. More Than You Know was named one of "The 100 Best Business Books of All Time" by 800-CEO-READ, one of the best business books by BusinessWeek (2006) and best economics book by Strategy+Business (2006). He is also co-author, with Alfred Rappaport, of Expectations Investing: Reading Stock Prices for Better Returns.

John Rogers, CFA, joined CFA Institute as President and CEO in January 2009 after more than two decades of global experience as an investment practitioner and executive in the Asia-Pacific region and the United States. Mr. Rogers worked with Citibank and CIGNA in Japan and Australia prior to joining INVESCO. He served as president and chief investment officer of Invesco Asset Management Ltd., Japan, CEO and Co-Chief Investment Officer of Invesco Global Asset Management, N.A., and as CEO of Invesco's worldwide institutional division, with over $200 billion in assets under management and 2,500 employees. After leaving Invesco in 2007, he founded Jade River Capital Management. Mr. Rogers is a director of numerous boards, endowment, and advisory committees in both the not-for-profit and in the corporate sectors. He earned a BA in history from Yale University and an MA in East Asian studies from Stanford University. Mr. Rogers earned his CFA charter in 1992. 

Howard Marks, CFA, has been responsible for ensuring the Oaktree Capital’s adherence to its core investment philosophy, communicating closely with clients concerning products and strategies, and managing the firm since its 1995 inception. From 1985 until 1995, Mr. Marks led the groups at The TCW Group, Inc. that were responsible for investments in distressed debt, high yield bonds, and convertible securities. He was also Chief Investment Officer for Domestic Fixed Income at TCW. Previously, Mr. Marks was with Citicorp Investment Management for 16 years, where from 1978 to 1985 he was Vice President and senior portfolio manager in charge of convertible and high yield securities. Between 1969 and 1978, he was an equity research analyst and, subsequently, Citicorp’s Director of Research. Mr. Marks holds a B.S.Ec. degree cum laude from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania with a major in Finance and an M.B.A. in Accounting and Marketing from the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago, where he received the George Hay Brown Prize. He is a CFA® charterholder and a Chartered Investment Counselor.

Marine Corporal Josh Bleill is a native of Greenfield, Indiana. After graduating high school, Josh attended Purdue University. After his personal education concluded, Josh decided to serve his country by joining the United States Marine Corps in 2004, and was activated for a tour of duty in Iraq in 2006.  While serving in Iraq, Corporal Bleill was severely injured, resulting in the loss of both of his legs.  After extensive rehabilitation, Bleill returned to Indiana in August of 2008, where he attacked his new life head-on.  This new life included employment as the Indianapolis Colts Community Spokesperson. Indianapolis Colts Owner, Jim Irsay, has described Bleill as “very talented, bright-eyed, and skilled.” Further, Irsay stated, “Josh had one of the toughest roads of all in recovering and finding a way to live his life to the fullest. I know he’s going to touch many lives for us.”

Bob Doll, CFA, is a Vice Chairman of BlackRock®, a premier provider of global investment management, risk management, and advisory services. Prior to joining BlackRock, Mr. Doll was President and Chief Investment Officer of Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, which merged with BlackRock in 2006. At BlackRock, Mr. Doll is the Global Chief Investment Officer for Equities and a member of the BlackRock Executive Committee. He is also a portfolio manager, responsible for managing over $20bn in large cap US equities. Mr. Doll joined Merrill Lynch in June 1999 and was named President and Chief Investment Officer in 2001. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, Mr. Doll was Chief Investment Officer of Oppenheimer Funds, Inc. Mr. Doll graduated from Lehigh University in 1976 with bachelor’s degrees in both Accounting and Economics. He received his MBA from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1980. He is a CFA charter holder and a Certified Public Accountant.

Mason Hawkins, CFA, serves as the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Southeastern Asset Management, a firm he co-founded in 1975.  Southeastern, which is the sub-adviser to the Longleaf Funds, has approximately $30 billion under management across three strategies.  Mr. Hawkins has 39 years of investment experience and is a CFA Charterholder.  He received a B.A. degree in Finance from University of Florida in 1970 and an M.B.A. degree from University of Georgia in 1975.  He is a highly respected value investor and a vocal advocate for Benjamin Graham’s discount to intrinsic value method to stock selection.
