Wheels to Work is an innovative program dedicated to helping homeless and low income individuals in the Sacramento area. It is the product of a unique collaboration between Paratransit, Inc., Women's Empowerment, the Sacramento Housing Alliance, Sacramento Steps Forward, the Department of Human Assistance, the California Department of Rehabilitation, and other homeless and housing service providers.
The program operates vans that are used to transport homeless men and women to job interviews, training programs, and key service sites. It also provides access to a mobile computer lab and job counseling, and offers assistance in resume writing and interview preparation. Without Wheels to Work, homeless individuals are often unable to take some of the most basic steps to gain steady employment.
Wheels to Work not only provides access to employment services, but it also employs people who were formerly homeless. The Sacramento Bee recently profiled Wheels to Work in an article found here.
Speakers: We are delighted to have three speakers, a reflection of the partnership that makes Wheels to Work possible. Linda Deavens, Paratransit's Chief Executive Officer; Bob Erlenbusch, Executive Director of the Sacramento Housing Alliance; and Carrie Thomas-Bradshaw, a Wheels to Work Community Outreach Ambassador, will share their perspectives about this innovative program that is literally driving to end homelessness.
