The Midtown Tunnel Project: A Design-Build Transportation Solution for Hampton Roads

     Join AIA-Hampton Roads Chapter and DBIA-Hampton Roads Chapter for a presentation by the SKW Joint Venture Design Build Team of Skanska, Kiewit and Weeks Marine on the Downtown Tunnel / Midtown Tunnel / Martin Luther King Freeway Extension Project. Lead design engineer for the project is Parsons Brinckerhoff. This is the largest Design Build Project in the history of Hampton Roads, and promises to be a most interesting and informing discussion!  

     Arrive at 3:30 PM for registration and networking, followed by the panel presentation and discussion.  The evening will conclude with a reception from 5:30-6:30 PM. Registration fee includes 2 drink tickets and hors d'oeuvres.

Cost: $35 for Members of Host Organizations, $45 guests

Meet Our Speakers

 

      Wade H. Watson currently serves as the Vice President of Operations for "Skanska USA Civil Southeast, Inc." headquartered in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Wade has led many major projects over his 32 year tenure, including many bridges of various types including cable stay, large civil/transportation projects, offshore structures and marine construction.  Wade is currently also acting as the Design Build Contractors project director for the new Midtown Tunnel project. This Public Private Partnership project will involve installation of a new parallel Midtown Tunnel, upgrades to the existing Midtown tube and the two Downtown tubes, as well as the completion of the Martin Luther King expressway.

 

     Fred Parkinson, S.E, P.E., is a Vice President of Parsons Brinckerhoff in the Norfolk, Virginia office. He is currently serving as the project manager for the design of the Midtown Tunnel project. Fred has 30 years of experience in a wide range of transportation related projects, including tunnels, bridges, movable bridges, transit, and ports.
