The War of 1812:
A Regional, State and National Conflict

Battle of Lake Erie

In commemoration of the 200th anniversary of the start of the War of 1812, PCHE presents the 2012 conference with a focus on the impact of the conflict at a local, state, and national level.  Particular emphasis is placed on the Battle for Lake Erie, national politics, the Flagship Niagara, and integrating the subject matter into contemporary teaching.

Breakout Sessions:

  • Flagship Niagara - tour the warship that won the Battle of Lake Erie during the War of 1812
  • Flagship Niagara's Modern Relevance to Pennsylvania
  • Colonel Strong Vincent - led by Bud Dever

  • Behind-the-scenes tour of the Museum and the old Erie Power Plant
  • Workshop with War of 1812 Curriculum - led by Linda Bollas, Director of Education, Erie Maritime Museum and Corrine Eagen, Coordinator of the Perry 200, Jefferson Educational Society

Included in the cost of your registration is a light breakfast, lunch, Act 48 credits, door prize drawings, and more!   Hear dynamic speakers, network with your colleagues in education, visit the vendors, enjoy the Bayfront, tour the Museum, the inner workings of the power plant, and the Flagship Niagara.   The Conference is presented as a resource to history educators, and is open to the public.   Whether you are a professional educator, a college or grad student, a museum administrator or staff member, or a history enthusiast - all are welcomed!
