Saving National Treasures Step by Step
Come join the Friends of Independence National Historical Park for a fun filled morning of family activities and fitness. On Sunday, June 17, 2012, beginning at 8 AM, the Friends of Independence will be hosting the Founding Father’s Day Fitness Stroll. This is a unique opportunity to meet Founding Father, Thomas Jefferson, and to walk across the Benjamin Franklin Bridge.
Bring your friends and families - especially your fathers - as we celebrate the father figures in our lives, including the ones that came before us. The event will convene on the front lawn of the National Constitution Center 535 Arch Street, where you will have the opportunity to become acquainted with Thomas Jefferson, learn about his belief in the importance of exercise and of course, Mr. Jefferson will be available for pictures.
Lace up your sneakers, or in the case of Thomas Jefferson, buckle your shoes as we prepare to walk the Benjamin Franklin Bridge. This event is for all fitness levels. So, whether you decide on a leisurely mid-span stroll, or choose the full round-trip, we welcome you to join us. The view from the bridge is spectacular, so be sure to bring your cameras for some memorable pictures of our national treasures.
The round-trip walk is 3.35 miles. For those interested in a shorter distance, there are areas along the bridge to turn around safely. Following the Walk, all are invited to the National Constitution Center lawn for a fabulous photo opportunity with Independence Hall as the backdrop. All photos will be available for free download on the Friends of Independence’s website.**
So whether you walk, jog or stroll, every step you take will help the Friends of Independence save our National Treasures and preserve our National Park.
