  The 2-Hour Job Search Workshop

Online job postings have fundamentally changed the job search.  Hiring managers increasingly rely on referrals to avoid reviewing hundreds of resumes per posting.  However, job seekers find the convenience of online postings irresistible, pouring countless hours into an inherently ineffective approach.

Instead of providing laundry lists of tips without regard to how long each one takes to implement, The 2-Hour Job Search provides step-by-step, time-limited instructions for the vaguest and most difficult part of the job search – getting that first interview.  This research-based process splits the post-campus job search into its three main components – Prioritization, Outreach, & Informational Interviewing – and helps job seekers get underway: quickly, efficiently, and effectively.

Workshop Schedule:

2:30pm-3:00pm -- Refreshments, MBA Networking (SGMH-3230 & Terrace)                                                    3:00pm-5:00pm -- Workshop Presentation (SGMH-1502)

The workshop is hosted by Southern California MBA Career Management Association, a newly formed consortium for the purpose of collaborative efforts to host more events and to bring Southern California's MBAs together towards unified career goals.

The workSteve Dalton (2-Hr Job Search)shop will be conducted by Steve Dalton, a senior career consultant and associate director at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business. He holds his own MBA from the same institution. Prior to entering the career services industry, Steve was an associate marketing manager at General Mills and a strategy consultant at A.T. Kearney.

Steve's book, The 2-Hour Job Search, was released by Random House's Ten Speed Press in March 2012.  Steve's presented his process at top business schools across the country including Stanford, Berkeley, and Cornell, and all Duke MBAs have learned the process as part of their core curriculum since 2010.
