Guide to the Garment District

Internationally-recognized quiltmaker, fabric designer, author and teacher Paula Nadelstern has created an extensive guide to those planning a visit to New York City's Garment District. You can find it on her website here: www.paulanadelstern.com/fabric/guides/index.php.
The list includes lists of stores that carry fabric, trim, buttons, beads, notions, lunch recommendations from those who work in the area, and even a Three Hour Guide to the Garment District! Paula is a native New Yorker and she knows her stuff!

Visit The City Quilter and See the Quilt Alliance "Home" Contest Quilts

City Quilter logo
Our good friends Cathy Izzo and Dale Riehl, owners of The City Quilter on 133 West 25th Street, will be exhibiting most of our 2012 Contest Quilts (the rest will be displayed at our FIT event). Don't miss a chance to preview all of these unique house-shaped quilts before the November eBay auction. And you'll also want to visit the The Art Quilt Gallery NYC, the only art quilt gallery in NYC (adjoining The City Quilter shop), opened by Dale and Cathy in April 2011.  Lisa Call's work will be exhibited there from September 11 - October 20.

Quilters Take Manhattan After Dark:
A cocktail party to benefit and celebrate quilting--
past, present, & future.

Join the Alliance for American Quilts (Quilt Alliance) after our FIT event at Victoria Findlay Wolfe's loft home to celebrate the full spectrum of quilting and quilters today. From performance art to old time music we’ll experience why quilts are still making a not-so-soft impact on culture and history like no other material culture. Rub elbows with our event speakers, Alliance members and business members who are leading the charge in creating and documenting the next wave of quilt history. You'll enjoy cocktails, demonstrations and music in Victoria's cozy, spacious and sophisticated loft--a remodeled garment factory. Victoria  (at left), is the co-founder of the New York City Metro Area Modern Quilt Guild, owner of Bumble Beans, Inc. and founder of the Bumble Beans Basics charity project.
