What to most is but a children's tale of "the little girl in the red hood who traveled through the forest to her grandmother's house, only to be fooled and eaten by the big bad wolf", has been re-imagined in a darkened glory...

The Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory (H+) in conjunction with No Longer Empty present "Dance Here. Hip-Hop." for the exhibition "This Side of Paradise" at The Andrew Freedman Home. H+ Curator of Works, Yvonne Chow, promises it to be "a celebratory day of full-sensory exploration in an art form and cultural invention that was birthed in the Bronx, and has now culturally diffused across the global sphere!"

We instead, find ourselves in 17th Century England, with a remorseful 300-year old wolf and a frozen-to-death Little Red Riding Hood. Our Little Red does not travel by herself into the afterlife. Rather, she is guided by her protector and accompanied by slaves and indentured servants while navigating the dimensions of limbo to purgatory.

This journey, a metaphorical representation of her transformation from a weak, victimized girl to an empowered, self-assured woman, is the distinguishing mark of Mr. Thomas' brilliant creation. This enigmatic rendition of a classic fairy-tale through the medium of concert dance, is an exploration of gender, rape, sexuality, morality, violence, regret, patriarchy and female empowerment.
