Over the last decade, Girls for Gender Equity (GGE) has worked to create opportunities for girls and women to live self-determined lives. We are proud to have given a powerful voice to over 6,000 girls, boys and young women throughout NYC. GGE participants are forces for positive social change. As leaders and champions for equality, our graduates make a difference in their families, schools, and communities. To reflect on our work over the past decade, we will celebrate the achievements of the young participants who continue to inspire us today.
At our June 14th celebration, we will have the honor of recognizing Anita Hill for her work as a leader, visionary and author. In 1991, Anita Hill’s courageous testimony during the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings sparked a national conversation on sexual harassment and women’s equality in politics and the workplace. Author of Reimagining Equality and Speaking Truth to Power, Anita is the Advisor to the Provost as well as professor of social policy, law, and women’s studies at Brandeis University. Ms. Hill’s bravery and own life pathway are emblematic of the goals of GGE – to develop the power and voices of all in support of equal opportunity and social justice.
We look forward to celebrating GGE and honoring Ms. Hill with you, on June 14, 2012, at 6:00 pm at the Brooklyn Historical Society. This will be an evening of celebration, connecting with new and old friends, meeting Anita Hill and an opportunity to recognize the great work in our communities to advance girls and women of color.
Thank you for believing in our vision and helping us move closer to our mission!
