Reciprocating Compressor Performance Training
Advanced Performance Analysis for Design and Troubleshooting

Dr. Bryan Long, compressor reliabilityThis 2.5 day course is geared to professionals with some experience in assessing performance of reciprocating compressors. The course is based on actual case studies and classroom projects.

Upon completing this course, participants will have:
  • a deep understanding of performance issues,
  • the ability to address differences between expected and actual compressor performance, and
  • the proficiency to accurately determine performance of a compressor under new operating scenarios.
The course blends field reliability issues, including performance troubleshooting, with design issues involved in new or modified compressor applications.

Objectives
  • Provide advanced training on performance analysis
  • Impart tricks and pitfalls involved in performance assessment
  • Equip participants to determine reciprocating compressor power and capacity by various techniques
  • Help participants gain a better understanding of the requirements for accurate predictions
Participants Will Learn How To
  • Predict reciprocating compressor capacity, brake power, and other key parameters
  • Estimate the accuracy of predictions
  • Determine the cause of discrepancies between predicted and actual performance
  • Predict performance under new operating conditions
  • Address pressure drop assumptions when designing new compressor installations
Content and Approach
The entire course is based on an actual case study backed by real data and a hands-on approach is used. Participants are expected to:
  • Develop predictions of capacity and power by various techniques
  • Compare predictions with actual measured values
  • Assess causes of differences between the various predictions
  • Draw conclusions concerning the discrepancy between the various power predictions and the actual measured power

Who Should Attend
This course is targeted to rotating equipment engineers and performance specialists. It is recommended that attendees be familiar with OEM performance programs used to size reciprocating compressors.

Registration
$750 (CAD) includes training, materials, continental breakfast and lunch each day.

Dr. Bryan Long, Director Business Services
Beta Machinery Analysis

Dr. Bryan Long has been with the Beta group of companies since 1972 and has over 40 years of direct experience in performance analysis of rotating machines. During his tenure as President of Beta Monitors and Controls, Bryan pioneered the development of performance analyzers, now commonly used throughout the compression industry. He developed the first digital acoustical analysis of reciprocating compressors, the first portable vibration monitor that “talked” to a computer, and the first portable reciprocating compressor monitor.

Bryan has significant field experience and expertise in root cause analysis, performance monitoring and testing, including assessment of mechanical condition, performance, and reliability for all kinds of industrial machinery.

Currently, Bryan is the Director of Business Services at Beta.  Among his other responsibilities, he leads the development and delivery of Beta’s “Monitor/Analyze/Optimize” (MAO) service offering low cost and effective condition and performance monitoring for industrial machinery and continues to provide expertise on performance related issues.
