MS Consensus 2012: From Research to Practice
June 27, 2012
Activity Description
Management of multiple sclerosis is currently one of the most dynamic fields in neurology. Large-scale congresses, such as those held annually by the American Academy of Neurology, are prime opportunities to learn of the many worldwide contributions toward a better understanding of the MS disease process, additional data on the efficacy and safety of existing disease-modifying agents, the utility of newer imaging techniques, the discovery of new biomarkers, and the potential for improving patient care with emerging drug therapies. This educational program is intended to deliver highlights from the AAN, as well as other important and clinically relevant updates in MS management.
Learning Objectives
This activity is intended for neurologists and neurology nurses who manage patients with multiple sclerosis. At the conclusion of this activity, participants should be able to:
Funding
- Discuss the most recent and clinically relevant research on the pathogenesis, risk factors, diagnosis, imaging techniques, and treatment of MS
- Describe the mechanisms of the available MS therapies and how their differences and similarities may affect their safety, efficacy, and long-term impact on clinical outcomes
- Differentiate emerging MS therapies with regard to their mechanisms, safety, efficacy, and immunological activity
- Outline key components of patient education including the impact of early treatment to deter disease progression and the importance of treatment adherence
