4th Annual "On the Road to Change" Bus TourRunning Behind the Bus: Education (In)Equity in Ventura County
This year's theme emerged from the tremendous buzz created by last year's "Youth at the Wheel" tour which highlighted youth leaders in Ventura County, who are energizing their communities (of all ages) to take a stand for lasting change. We all agreed that we want to see more youth leading the way. So the obvious Social Justice Fund-style, "look more closely at the source of the issue" question we asked was "What's the roadblock?" The answer: Education inequity.
Did you ever wonder where a homeless child would go to school, since school enrollment is based on where your home is?
Social Justice Fund's Bus Tours are designed to spotlight community organizations, who are making a positive difference in our corner of the world. More importantly, you get a chance to meet face-to-face with people who are on the front lines of dealing with social justice issues. On this tour, you will be able to engage in dialogue with the community organizers who are bringing together students, parents, educators and their allies to bring more balance to the inequity in our education system.
If you attended the 100% Summit, or the Social Justice in Education Conference, this tour carries forward Education as an important theme that we all can agree needs change, in a way that will leave you inspired by actual solutions that are taking place. If you are new to the social justice community, this tour is an ideal way to meet supporters, as well as people on the front-lines, and to expand your experience of "community coming together to make lasting change."
