The Art and Experience
of Leadership

at the American School in London

It is will great pleasure that we bring our signature seminar, The Art and Experience of LondonLeadership, to our European colleagues.  Please join us at the American School in London for a professional growth experience that will allow you to take time away from the busyness of your day-to-day school work and provide you with the necessary time and space for reflection, recentering and renewal.

"A wonderful experience; I feel renewed both emotionally and physically. Thank you so much for bringing me back to life, and reaffirming my value system about leadership and life.”
- SFLC Fellow, Spring 2012

"This seminar was life changing for me."
-SFLC Fellow, Winter 2012

SEMINAR OVERVIEW:
School leaders face a myriad of challenges including unpredictable economic conditions, high varying expectations from parents, a culture influenced by the media and technology, rapidly changing systems of  information delivery and the nearly impossible task of communicating with a multitude of constituents with different, and often competing, needs. In addition, leaders are challenged to maintain tradition while being on  the vanguard of meaningful change. It’s clear that schools of today and tomorrow need leaders empowered with vision, courage, an ability to hold multiple perspectives and a high level of skill.  How do you lead with a renewed commitment that is focused, clear and strong?  Here is an opportunity to step away from the noise and demands of your everyday environment and tightly scheduled calendar and retreat to an idyllic setting where you can have the time and luxury of contemplating your choices.  And you get to do this in the company of others who share a high level of commitment and responsibility for leadership.

At this seminar, participants actively participate in:

  • Stimulating conversations and hands-on workshops around topics such as the real challenges of leadership, group dynamics, team building and one’s personal mission and vision of leadership.
  • Different configurations including both smaller and larger groups.
  • Alone time for reading, writing and contemplation.
  • Reviewing and analyzing real cases of events surrounding leadership.
  • A reconnection to your core values, mission, purpose and the reasons you chose to  lead schools in the first place.
  • Reflection, growth and renewal in the beautiful setting of the American School in London
  • Planning what might be different when you return to the familiar.

MORE COMMENTS FROM RECENT PARTICIPANTS:

“It was a very special time for me. I cannot overemphasize how that time together affected me in mind and spirit.  It was genuinely a time of grace.”
Principal, New Orleans, LA

“What a great 3 days. Thank you, each of you, for your guidance, counsel, candor, and sharing of self. It was a profound experience for me, one on which I will draw for many years to come.”
Assistant Head of School, Atlanta, GA

“Very restorative and restful. I appreciated the down time, the time with fellow educators and the time to think deeply about career and journey. Many thanks!”
Assistant Head of School, Oakland, CA

“I love balance.  I crave harmony.  This year, harmony has been hard to come by, and I’ve wondered more than once whether leadership is for me.  What  I’ve come to know in the last 3 ½ days is that my journey in life as a leader can be harmonious if I choose the road of graceful acceptance for that which I cannot change, and if I find ways to stay centered in the process, and not worry so much about the product.  For the harmony is in the journey, and all roads lead home.”
Lower School Head, Bryn Mawr, PA
