Meet Future Women Build Homeowner Ana Reyes
Ana is the single mother of 5 children that range in age from 2 yrs. to 14 yrs. Ana manages to work full time, hold two part-time jobs and care for her children. You can see Ana regularly at the jobsite completing her sweat equity hours and always with a smile on her face. Ana gives credit to her faith in God for her perseverance and is grateful for her children, their health and continued safety. Ana and her children are looking forward to their new home, with more room, greater privacy and a safe neighborhood in which to live.
Green Build
The homes to be built at Hope Landing will be built using “green” design and construction techniques. This means that the homes will use less energy, conserve water and be more affordable to maintain for the home owners. In terms of numbers, the homes at Hope Landing will:
- Save families 25-50% on their utility bills.
- Feature metal roofs with a 30-year guarantee, which means less waste going to landfills for roof replacement.
- Use 40-60% less water through Florida-friendly landscaping techniques.
- Exterior walls are now capable of withstanding well over 200 MPH wind speeds
Manatee County Habitat for Humanity Women Build volunteers kicked-off a 9 month construction project at a ground- breaking ceremony on Saturday, August 18th at 9:30am at Hope Landing community in Ellenton. Women throughout Manatee County will take the lead on the construction of a 4 bedroom green built house for future Habitat homeowner Ana and her 5 children.
The Manatee Habitat Women Build project brings women from all walks of life together to actively address the issue of substandard housing. Women volunteers are leading all aspects of the project including construction, fundraising and marketing. Lowes, a national sponsor of Habitat Women Build, will provide local workshops for volunteers interested in learning basic construction skills. Additional sponsors include New Village Church and the Arnold Simonsen Foundation, Manatee Habitat Women Build Founders Club and friends of Habitat.

Dear Friend of Habitat,
Chances are that you probably know Habitat for Humanity volunteers build houses with families in need. Families with children make up a staggering number of those in need of adequate housing. More than 12 million children live in substandard housing in the United States alone. In the U.S., more than 70 percent of Habitat’s homes are built with women heads-of-household.
What you may not know is that nationally more than 1,500 Habitat homes have been built by crews of women. In September 2012 women volunteers from Manatee County will begin building the future home of the Ana Reyes and her family, launching our first Women Build in over 5 years! We have started working to reach our goal of $100,000 to build a 4 bedroom, platinum rated energy star efficient, Leed Certified “Green” Habitat home. Partnering with our local Lowe’s Home Improvement Center we plan to offer opportunities for women of all skill levels and interest to unite in an effort to end substandard housing in our community.
