Touch, Taste, and Learn at the AgriCultural Festival: Around The World on a Plate

On Monday, June 18th, The Synergy Garden along with The International Center and the Greenville County Farm Bureau will present the first annual AgriCultural Festival: Around the World on a Plate to share agriculture’s vital role in the economy, environment, and lifestyle of people from around the world.

“We’re trying to bring together a diverse group of people to showcase and honor agriculture from a diverse array of places and perspectives,” said Anita Tam, Founder of the Synergy Garden in Simpsonville. The agriculture of Central America, South America, and Africa will be featured during this inaugural event.

First, subject-matter experts will give short talks about the landscapes, farming techniques, and crops of the featured regions. Next, participants will enjoy an international lunch prepared by local chef Michael Granata who will use all locally grown produce in his dishes.  

“This year’s festival is certain to not only satisfy your curiosity about agriculture from around the world — but it will also satisfy your appetite,” said Whitney Walters, Executive Director of The International Center.

After lunch, kids (and grownups too!) will be able to experience the sights and sounds of the Synergy Community Garden that will have supplied much of the produce used during lunch. Tours of the garden will be given from 1 to 2 pm.

Adult admission to the AgriCultural Festival is $10 for members of The International Center and Synergy Garden and $12 for non-members. Children’s tickets are $5.
