Theology Lab

October 10-13, 2012 

We are excited about the up-coming Theology Lab and anticipate working with you during the lab to develop theological frameworks for planting kingdom communities on mission with God. 

 We consider this lab the “fulcrum” of Mission Alive.  Out of practical, transformative theology we develop the practices of missional church planting and renewal.  The biblical story line presented in this lab will become like the rudder of a ship guiding your own stories and practices.  These stories will illuminate the interrelated biblical themes of the kingdom of God, missio dei (the mission of God), and incarnation and provide direction and focus to your thinking and planning for church renewal.  Randy Harris, who has a unique ability to guide while allowing you freedom in applying theology to practice, will facilitate much of the lab.  He begins with “humanity” and takes you through the major tenets of the Christian faith concluding with a theology of “church” and the nature of spiritual formation.  These understandings will enable you during the lab to form a theology for church planting and renewal.  The final product of the lab is a personal narrative formed by scripture, shaped by divine impulses, and placed in your hearts, which will guide you in the development of practices (or strategies) of ministry.

In summary, we teach three things in this Theology Lab:  Biblical theologies that form us, practices of these theologies, and first steps in implementing them.  Out of practical, transformative theology we develop the Christian practices for discipleship and missions.
