Public Documentation Forum - July 25, 2012

Join Us for DC’s first official Public Documentation Hearing.  This is a a community exchange among students, families, experts and advocates, public officials, concerned community leaders, civil rights advocates and you. We will be joined by Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, Chief Judge Steven Teske of the Juvenile Court of Clayton County, Georgia, President Wade Henderson of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Behavioral Specialist Samantha Simpore of the Maya Angelou Academy (recently featured on NBC's Rock Center), Executive Director Tracy Velazquez of the Justice Policy Institute and many others.

Our hearing is designed to share what is happening in DC’s traditional and charter public schools and school discipline strategies employed in DC and around the country that restore community, help young people get back on the right track and promote learning and good school experiences for all.

The goal is to set in motion a broader dialogue and to share school discipline strategies that work to manage schools and create happy and successful learning communities. Teachers, schools and public officials can make decisions that use behavioral incidents as opportunities for learning and community building in an environment of communication and support.
