Targeted Interventions: Meeting the Needs of Unaccompanied Homeless Youth

Join MA Appleseed at our second annual conference as we explore the unique barriers faced by unaccompanied homeless youth and develop strategies to implement change.

Featuring Keynote Speaker: Christina Murphy, The National Center on Family Homelessness

Please join us on Thursday, November 15 as we connect educators, advocates, service providers and policy-makers in order to address the vulnerabilities and barriers faced by unaccompanied homeless youth (UHY). Working collaboratively, we will explore the unique problems faced by UHY, discuss efforts underway to address such issues, and explore paths and recommendations for implementing change.

Our Keynote Speaker, Christina Murphy directs The National Center on Family Homelessness' policy and communication efforts and oversees the Campaign to End Child Homelessness. Previously, she was Senior Manager of Community Initiatives with Project Bread - The Walk for Hunger where she advocated for programs and policies to increase participation in the federal nutrition programs. She has also worked as a deputy press secretary for the Massachusetts Senate and as a legislative aide in the U.S. Senate.

Following our keynote speaker, we will host a panel discussion that will discuss the unique vulnerabilities related to health, education and housing for this population. We will also host several breakout sessions including:

  • Creating a Comprehensive Definition of Unaccompanied Homeless Youth with Liz Rogers, Massachusetts Interagency Council on Housing and Homelessness and Kathy Betts, Executive Office of Health and Human Services
  • Identifying Unaccompanied Homeless Youth: Deriving Data from an Accurate Count with Prof. Laurie Ross, Clark University
  • Accessing Vital Services: Mandatory Reporting as an Inadvertent Barrier with Mark Evans, Bridge Over Troubled Waters
  • Comprehensive Programs and the Importance of a Wrap-Around Approach with Danielle Ferrier, Rediscovery House

We look forward to seeing you on November 15th!
