IMPORTANT NOTICE:  We at Sacramento Valley Dental Hygienists' Association have listened to all of our past attendee's feedback, concerns, comments and requests.  Therefore, to help everyone keep more of their hard earned money, yet still provide the highest quality continuing education available, we will no longer be providing dinner at our monthly CE meetings.  You will notice a significant decrease in registration fees for members and non-members alike (see above) due to this change!  We will still meet at the Dante Club as usual.  The registration process remains the same...please register through our online system by Monday of the week of the meeting.  Please note that only pre-registered attendees will have access to any handouts provided by the speaker (a link is emailed a day or two prior to the meeting. You are welcome to print them out ahead of time and bring them with you if you wish to take notes).

We hope this "No Frills, No Food" change helps ease your financial burden for obtaining the required CEUs you  need for your continued licensure.  Did you know...If you attend all of our offered monthly meetings, you will obtain all the CEUs you need for your renewal requirements?  Why go anywhere else?

Understanding the Oral-Systemic Connection: From Intensive Care to Long-term Care (2 CEU)

Featuring Cindy Kleiman RDH, BS

May 16, 2013

Care of the medically compromised patient presents many challenges and rewards.  This course addresses the oral-systemic connection and explores solutions in treating patients who have experienced traumatic brain injury, like ABC News’ Bob Woodruff, or a stroke, like Dick Clark. Hear accounts of more than 25 years of the presenter’s experience covering the full spectrum of patient care, from ICU through rehab to long-term care.

 OBJECTIVES:

  • Cite evidence-based research connecting oral care with critically ill patient care
  • Explain the oral hygiene connection to Ventilator Associated Pneumonia
  • Describe medical manifestations of various types of neurologically compromised patients
  • Provide appropriate care utilizing efficient techniques

KleimanCindy Kleiman RDH, BS is an international speaker who graduated from the University of Pennsylvania. She has spent her entire career working with the medically complex patient. She began her career at Moss Rehabilitation Hospital in Philadelphia and when she moved to Phoenix, she founded the dental department at Good Samaritan Hospital Rehabilitation Institute. Cindy became faculty at Phoenix College in 1987, teaching the treatment of bedridden patients in the “Homebound” program; she also taught “Medical Emergencies” there for ten years and is a certified CPR instructor. Currently Cindy provides clinical care at a nursing facility and consults with hospital ICU nurses throughout the world on control of oral infection. She has been profiled in six national journals and has received four awards for providing unique care.
