About The Owner of PLAY....

Kasey Shoemaker

 ___________________

Owner Kasey Shoemaker is an MSU graduate who lived and worked in Chicago for six years. After having twins in the city, Kasey moved back to the Lansing area to combine her love for children with her entrepreneurial spirit. The result is PLAY., a space where children can play safely with other young children while providing parents or caregivers the opportunity to relax comfortably with other adults, have a cup of coffee, and keep an eye on their little ones. Kasey is dedicated to the environment, and uses natural, local, organic materials wherever possible at PLAY.

Program Information

Please join us for our Parent and Infant Classes, held in partnership with Montessori Radmoor School and PLAY of East Lansing.  These classes are specifically designed for parents to engage with their infants in a specially prepared Montessori environment under the guidance of a certified Montessori infant and toddler teacher.

Why Attend?

The Parent-Infant Series for the child from two months to almost walking focuses on the specific needs and rapid physical and mental development of the newly born child. From stationary work with mobiles that encourage visual development to other materials that encourage grasping, rolling, slithering, scooting, crawling, and eventually pulling up to stand, the environment for the youngest child offers a variety of appropriately challenging, sensorial experiences to bolster the acquisition of purposeful movement and language. The rewards and challenges of parenting a newborn and infant, and the importance of respectful parenting drive the parent discussions in this first community for infants and their parents.

Program Materials and Process

Materials in the environment are carefully chosen to assist the development of motor skills and language. The classroom is cheerful and inviting.  Low shelves and tables make the materials easily accessible.

The infants are given the opportunity to exercise their independence by exploring thebaby on stairs environment. Children and parents scatter around the room. By a gesture or movement, each child shows their parent what is interesting to the child. Each week new materials are available to capture the infant’s interest.

The teacher moves around the room showing a child special detail or describing the significance of what the child is doing.
