Join us to put the ideas of the

2012 Headwaters Food Summit into action

In April 2012 you were invited to attend the inaugural Headwaters Food Summit & Local Food Trade Fair because you are someone whose perspective and insights would enrich the dialogue about developing a local food and farming strategy for Headwaters.  Since then, the organizations who worked together to make it happen have been working collaboratively behind the scenes to support next steps. This has included:

Just recently we got confirmation of sufficient funding to convene a series of workshops whose goal is to further refine and prioritize the ideas of the Headwaters 2012 Food Summit and developing action plans for the Summit's five priority areas, which are:

  • Grow Awareness - Educate and engage people about food and farming system issues and opportunities
  • Expand School Programs - Educate and engage our youth through school-based food and farming programs
  • Improve Policy - Work together to create supportive food system policies
  • Facilitate Distribution - Enhance links between food producers and consumers to strengthen our food economy and food access
  • Support Culinary Tourism - promote and enhance culinary and agricultural tourism

We plan to host the first workshop at two different times to enable as many people as possible to give input into our next steps. Your attendance is required at only one meeting. The two dates for this first meeting are:

  • Meeting Option #1 - Tuesday October 23th from 1:00 - 3:30 p.m. at Caledon Town Hall; or
  • Meeting Option #2: Wednesday October 24th from 7:00 - 9:30 p.m. at Mono Community Centre, Town of Mono

Click here to download the Workshop Agenda.  The goals of this meeting are:

  1. To update you on the work that's been done since the 2012 Food Summit
  2. To review, refine and prioritize the ideas within each of the five priority areas identified at the 2012 Food Summit; and,
  3. To begin developing short term action plans and structures for working together on them.

We hope you'll be able to join us!
