A Guided Tour of Modern Architecture in Lake Jackson, Texas


Join Houston Mod for a guided tour of the modern architecture of Lake Jackson and Freeport as part of the DoCoMoMo US 2012 National Tour Day on October 6.  Experience the unique history of a mid-twentieth century planned community in the coastal forest.  

See and visit buildings by Alden Dow, MacKie & Kamrath, Allen R. Williams, Phillip G. Willard and other architects with noted architectural historian Stephen Fox and local historian Martin Merritt.    

During the full day of activities, we’ll tour over a half-dozen private homes and buildings and learn the unique history of the area.    Download a PDF file introduction to Lake Jackson here.

Date:   Saturday, October 6, 2012  8:30AM – 6:30PM 

Event includes lunch and a special reception with Lake Jackson homeowners and historians.

For Houston participants, the tour departs at 8:30AM from Houston Mod at 3015 Richmond Avenue.    Lake Jackson participants will join the tour at 9:30AM at the Alden Dow Office Museum at 101 S. Parking Place.

Limited tickets available for this event, reserving no later than September 28 suggested. 

Open to current members of Houston Mod and the Lake Jackson Historical Association only.    Non-members may join Houston Mod at a discounted rate with your ticket purchase.

A complete list of tour stops will be provided with your ticket.   Tickets are non-refundable.
