"Competency-based Medical Education: Why More Than Ever, Words Matter"

Dr. Hemmer received his medical degree from the Medical College of Wisconsin and his Master in Public Health from the Uniformed Services University. He is Professor of Medicine and the Vice-Chairman for Educational Programs, Department of Medicine, USU. He has been involved with U.S. national leadership in undergraduate medical education, including serving as President of the Clerkship Directors in Internal Medicine (CDIM), the national organization representing those who teach internal medicine to medical students, as a member of the Group on Educational Affairs of the Association of American Medical Colleges, and as Chair of the nominating committee for the annual Research in Medical Education conference. He chairs the Assessment Committee for Curriculum Reform at USU. His interests include improving the descriptive evaluation of trainee performance, professionalism, and clerkship director professional development.
