Symposium Overview
The mission of the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media is to dramatically improve the representation and portrayals of female characters in entertainment targeting children 11 and under.
Established in 2004 by Academy Award winning actor and advocate Geena Davis, the Institute convenes a community of global entertainment and media leaders biannually to present its ground breaking research findings and to engage in discussions to create solutions to address these gender inequality challenges. The Symposium brings together over 300 leading entertainment and media CEOs, directors, writers, producers, corporations and organizations.
This year, the Symposium is held in partnership with Variety’s Beverly Hills Entertainment Week. Past participants and supporters include: Alloy Media, The Annenberg Foundation, CBS, Creative Artists Agency, the Ford Foundation, the David Geffen Foundation, PBS Kids, Nickelodeon Animation and MTV Kids, ITVS/PBS, Sony Pictures, and The Walt Disney Studios.
