Senntennial Reunion
Million$ of Memories, PowerBall, and Alumni Talent
Reunion Details: A two-day SENNsation!
Friday, October 4, 2013, 6-11 pm, was held at Senn. Relived the memories of "old Senn." Took tours of "new Senn," danced in the gym, and more! Complete details here.
Saturday, October 5, 2013, 6-11 pm, the Senntennial Gala, was a festive evening of friendships, delicious food, fun, drinks, and dancing in the spectacular Grand Ballroom of Chicago's beautiful Navy Pier!
We were extremely gratified that returning to celebrate with us and performing the role of emcee at the Senntennial Gala, October 5, was Scott Simon, (1970s grad). Scott is an award-winning author and correspondent with NPR. He hosts The Weekend Edition Saturday, on WBEZ Chicago, 91.5 FM. Joining us, too, for the festivities was Jeremy Lazarus, M.D. , (1960s grad). Like our namesake, Nicholas Senn, M.D., Dr. Lazarus served as the President of the American Medical Association. A ceremonial wreath-laying on Senn's grave by Dr. Lazarus was held on September 18, at Graceland Cemetary, Chicago.
Also on the alumni-talent front, spinning music for us at Navy Pier wasthe energetic DJ Pearl “Jam” Jones, Class of 1981; and Chicago House Legend, DJ Chris Underwood, Class of 1988. Both tore it up to get us out on the dance floor, whether your favorites were ballroom, line dances, hip-hop, club, disco, rock & roll, Latin, boogie, salsa, merengue, or soul! Alumna Zeba Zafar, Class of 2007, captured our millions of memories in pictures, to help the Gala live on forever! Details on photograph purchases pending.
We were graced by several guest speakers:
Elston Elston, aka The Lone Ranger, Retired Faculty
Courtney Shanken, Class of 1938
Jeremy Lazarus, Class of 1961
Walter Sobel, Class of 1930
Unable to join us for the festivities was Centenarian Robert Goldberg, likewise from the Class of 1930. He sends his kindest regards.
As a side thrill, we purchased 850 Senn Power(ball) tickets! Every Senntennial Gala ticket-holder, alum and guest, received numbers from a FREE POWERBALL LOTTERY TICKET for the drawing of Saturday, October 5. The official counters are still comparing numbers on those 850 tickets, so stay tuned for more information on whether we can split the lotto pot!
Many, many thanks for attending the Party of the SENNtury! We hope you had a SENNsational time!
Additional festivities include an exhibit at Edgewater Historical Society:
The Edgewater Historical Society is joining in the 100 year anniversary of Senn High School by showcasing some of Senn's most famous graduates in an exhibit. In addition to the brief biographies the exhibit includes memorabilia like cartoons from yearbooks, graduation programs, a sample report card, Senn publications and the display of some of the Senn yearbooks in the collection. The exhibit will open September 8 at 1 p.m. and will be available during the weekend hours at the museum, 1p.m-4p.m. until October 20, 2013. A special reception will be held the weekend of the Senn Gala celebration, October 5 and 6, during regular museum hours from 1-4 PM, at:
