Midwifing the Great Turning:

"The Work that Reconnects" workshop

Nurturing our Abilities to Heal our World

Our world is in the midst of a monumental cultural shift that is as deeply profound as any humanity has ever experienced. It means for us all the death of one way of living and the birth of another. Cultural forces and the action of systems are driving the implosion and also the transition. This workshop will help us orient to and skillfully respond to those forces.

Join Emily Johns and Karina Lutz for a day-long spiral of “The Work that Reconnects.” This perspective-changing, life-affirming experiential learning process was developed by Joanna Macy and other deep ecologists (www.joannamacy.net). It helps us face, feel, and make sense of our increasing and multiple global catastrophes: from Fukushima to the Gulf of Mexico, the Afghan War to global warming, to the intertwined unemployment, foreclosure, energy, and financial crises. We'll work to reclaim the energy for action that is thwarted when we put our natural responses to these crises on the back burner or suppress them altogether. We'll reclaim our sense of interconnectedness with each other and as part of the web of life in Earth.

Starting with gratitude for living in earth, we'll move into honoring our pain for the state of the world, then see with new eyes--looking at the world through a holistic, systems paradigm--and finally end with exercises to help us go forth into the world with renewed passion, clarity, and a sense of  ‘power with’, instead of the prevailing ‘power over’.
