New York City Photo Tour

Downtown &  Brooklyn Bridge

Friday, November 23, 2012  10:00AM to 6:00PM

TOUR INSTRUCTOR:  David J. Simchock (www.DavidSimchock.com / www.VagabondVistas.com)

TOUR DESCRIPTION:  For the "Downtown" NYC itinerary, David's group will meet him at a designated location near to City Hall, and then work their way around lower Manhattan.  The day can include a stroll down Wall Street, a stop for an indoor / interior shoot (e.g., Trinity Church), down to Battery Park, then over the Brooklyn Bridge, culminating with a twilight / night shoot from the Brooklyn side of the bridge.

The general theme of this Photo Tour is architecture - both exterior and interior, from vast skyline vistas, to the details of historic buildings, to a low-light interior session. David will also instruct on creative techniques such as depth-of-field and shutter speed (e.g., "panning" moving traffic).  The highlight of the event is surely the walk over the Brooklyn Bridge and the subsequent twilight view of the city skyline and Brooklyn Bridge from a park on the Brooklyn side of the bridge.

Throughout the day, David will guide the group to the optimum locations for creating postcard views of this historic landscape along the East River and in lower Manhattan.  Not just a "tour guide", David divides his time between brief group instruction mini-sessions, and working one-on-one with his clients.

Designed as a "hands-on" workshop, this Photo Tour is ideal for past students of David's classroom-based workshops, though it is also a fine match for any photography enthusiast.

Just as he does in his studio workshops, David provides practical tricks-of-the-trade in camera operation and artistic composition, helping his participants to "make" great photos, instead of just "taking" them.

GEAR:  This event is open to DSLR and point-and-shoot photographers alike.  Wide angle and telephoto lenses are recommended, and a tripod is essential for the twilight / night shoot.

MEETING PLACE / TRANSPORTATION: The group will meet at a designates location in Downtown Manhattan near to City Hall.  Transportation is not included in the fee for this event.

MEAL:  There will be a short break about half-way through the session for a meal / snack (meal not included with tour fee).

It is highly recommended that each participant wear comfortable walking shoes and bring appropriate gear for unexpected inclement weather.

Group size is limited to just eight (8) people.
