2012 marks Alliance Française d’Atlanta’s 100th anniversary.  To celebrate this historic achievement, we are honoring a French artist who has made a tremendous contribution to the arts.  Georges Méliès was one of the most amazing figures in cinema.  From 1896 to 1913, he directed 520 films of which he was the producer, distributor and actor.

Making this program even more special, his descendants will present a performance in the true family tradition of silent films accompanied by live music and narration.  Joining us from France to present this film concert will be Méliès own family members, Marie-Hélène Lehérissey and Lawrence Lehérissey.  Marie-Hélène Lehérissey, a film editorGeorges Méliès's great-granddaughter is the third generation of narrator-presenters in the family.  She takes care of the film collection of the Friends of Georges Méliès Association–Méliès Film Archive while offering “cinematographic performances” in the family tradition.  Lawrence Lehérissey is an alumnus of the Paris Conservatory, pianist, composer and improviser.  He improvises on every film of George Méliès incorporating the text of the narrator.
