Add sparkle to any occasion with this classic beaded accessory.
The scarf is knit with beads placed in a graduated fashion at both ends. It is reversible, displaying a different look on each side.
The yarn used in this image is Be Sweet Bamboo, which has a soft sheen and drapes wonderfully. The scarf is approximately 4” wide x 52 ” long, using 220 yards of dk weight yarn.
Techniques learned:
We will discuss bead sizes, stringing and bead knitting techniques and pre-string 6/0 TOHO seed beads before knitting the project. You will learn to knit them into position.
Students will learn the backwards loop cast on. Selvage edge stitches at the beginning and end of each row will also be used in this project.
Wet blocking will be demonstrated at the last class.
Prerequisites: Students must know how to knit and purl.
Supply list:
Materials must be purchased at StevenBe or The Yarn Garage prior to class.
Many dk weight yarns will work with this pattern.
I recommend 220-300 yards of a dk weight yarn depending on your desired scarf length. Some options are:
2 balls of BeSweet Bamboo
3 balls of SMC Select Violena Colori
1 Hank Cascade Ultra Pima Cotton
3 balls of Sublime baby silk and bamboo dk
2 balls of Classic Elite Wool Bamboo dk
3 balls of Snuggly Baby Bamboo dk
80 grams of size 6/0 TOHO seed beads (approximately 1200 beads)
Size 6 or 7 lace tipped knitting needles, such as Addi Lace or Chaigoo lace. (I used size 6 with Be Sweet Bamboo.)
The instructor provides fleece mats and floss threaders for bead stringing.
