Webinar: Planning to Work - Social Security and Medical Benefits and Work Incentives

Learn the basics around Social Security and Medical Benefits and the work incentives you may utilize when pursuing your career goals. While many people have fears around pursuing employment when they are on these public benefits, there are work incentives that you can utilize to realize employment.

Susan and Molly will provide a brief overview of these benefits, with information about the strategies and services that can assist in a smooth transition from full reliance on benefits to greater self sufficiency through employment.  They will provide basic information about Supplemental Security Income, Social Security Disability Insurance, and Medicaid and Medicare benefits, while reviewing applicable work incentives like the Plan for Achieving Self Support, Impairment Related Work Expenses, Blind Work Expenses, the Trial Work Period, the Extended Period of Eligibility, Medicaid Buy-In programs, and other important tools that support the pursuit of employment.

The goals of the webinar are that participants will be able to identify:

  • The basic differences between the two types of Social Security Cash Disability Benefits;
  • The differences between Medicare and Medicaid benefits and their relationship to the different Social Security cash benefits;
  • Several of the work incentives that apply to these benefits;
  • The various resources for getting information about an individual’s specific benefits and the applicable work incentives
