How Sailboats Sail - The Fundamentals

Register Now!

Now that the sailing season is over, this is a good opportunity to reveiw and deepen your understanding of the fundamental concepts of sailing.  You don't need to be a physicist to be a good sailor, but sailboats follow some basic rules of physics as they make their way through the water.

The seminar will delve into the concept of lift.  The phenomenon that allows airplanes to fly also is at work whenever sailboats sail upwind.  You'll come away with a better understanding of sail trim, the adjustment of sails relative to the centerline of the boat.  Do you become uncomfortable when a sailboat heels over?   We'll be discussing how all the forces on the boat can be balanced out to maximize speed and comfort.

Join us for our first educational event of the season.  A social hour will follow.  Know someone who is interested?  Bring them along.
