Disaster comes in many different shapes and sizes. Whether epic natural events like storms, wildfires or earthquakes or the smaller-scale calamities of everyday human life, how can we meet a crisis with true presence of mind? Colleen Morton Busch, author of Fire Monks, will address this subject using the example of how residents of the Tassajara Zen Mountain Monastery near Big Sur saved their monastery from wildfire devastation during the massive 2008 Basin Complex Fire.

The Library is pleased to collaborate with the City’s Emergency Preparedness Commission and Fire Department in bringing greater awareness to the real threats posed to Mill Valley by natural disasters. Fire Chief Jeff Davidson and Ron Vidal, Chair of the Emergency Preparedness Commission, will join Busch for a Q&A following the author’s talk. David Zimmerman, one of the monk’s featured in Fire Monks, will also be available to answer questions.
