Educational Workshop

You and your colleagues are invited to a one-day educational workshop on FEB 9, 2013. It's going to be the first of it's kind in New Mexico. The purpose is to provide you with tools and information to help educate students that have special needs like Down syndrome.This day will be FREE to all educators. There will be great speakers, good food, exciting raffle prizes and lots of laughs. Come join us for a day of inspiration and fun.

Enjoy Keynote Speakers that will encourage and inspire all educational professionals regardless of your title or role.
There will be break out sessions to meet the needs of elementary teachers & secondary teachers, administrators and therapist. Come and bring your friends for a day of fun and learning.

Continental Breakfast, Lunch & afternoon snack will be provide.

Dr. Kathleen Whitbread

Director of  The Open Books Open Doors project which provides free literacy screenings for Connecticut children with Down syndrome in pre-school through grade 3 as well as resources for parents and teachers on best practices in literacy instruction for students with Down syndrome. www.openbooksopendoors.com
Dr. Whitbread is an Associate Professor of Education at the Universtiy of Saint Joseph School of Education in West Hartford, CT.

Tim Harris 
Owner of Tim's Place, a locally owned and run restaurant in Albuquerque, NM featuring great breakfast and lunch items daily all including a hug from Tim. Tim was born with Down syndrome but has never let that get in the way of his dreams!

Dr. Gary Schwantz 
Clear Creative Encourager - Gary has had an experience-rich life with a number of careers, many involve teaching, all of which have shaped his appreciation for living and equipped him to connect with people from diverse walks of life and share his views on savoring life. Gary has a Ph.D. in Family and Consumer Sciences,a Master Degree in Educational Administration and a Bachelor's in Family Studies and Home Economics.
