Buying and Selling a Business 3-8-13
Buying or selling a business can be a very challenging and financially risky prospect. To assist you with making that critical decision, professional advisors and SCORE counselors who have actually bought and sold their own businesses will take you through the important steps of identifying, qualifying and establishing the correct price and terms for the business.
This special program includes the following topics:

Alex Galenes
During his 27 year career as a U.S. Army officer, Alex attained Fellowship in the American College of Healthcare Executives and served as chief operating officer and chief executive officer of hospitals and other organizations within the military healthcare system worldwide. As a leader and manager in both line and staff organizations his specialized expertise focused on strategic planning, organizational design and analysis, and leadership and management development. Following his retirement, Alex transitioned into the field of business brokerage. He owned and operated a brokerage firm where he consulted with and represented buyers and sellers of a wide variety of enterprises.
Dianne Harmata
Attorney at Law, Harmata & Associates, received her Juris Doctor upon graduating from law school in 1992 and was awarded the American Jurisprudence Award for academic achievement. In 1997, Ms. Harmata received a postdoctoral LL.M. master's law degree in taxation, with emphasis in estate planning.
Ms. Harmata, with her brother, is a principal in the firm Harmata & Associates, a full service law firm with two offices in San Diego County. She practices primarily in business/commercial law and estate planning and is a regular speaker in the community on business and estate planning topics. In addition to continuing education presentations to other attorneys, Ms. Harmata is one of SCORE's most seasoned presenters on legal issues for small businesses.
Greg LaVay
has been an entrepreneur and business owner for over thirty years. He started and owned five retail furniture stores, three retail service stations, and an auction company. Additionally, he was a start-up and working partner in a national buying cooperative and a national catalog publication company.
Greg’s training includes a business administration degree from San Diego State University and six years in marketing with Shell Oil Company. He left Shell to start his own business.
Greg’s strengths are in retail and new business start-up; starting and operating a business is what he does best. He is highly qualified in retail operations, business financial statements, personnel management, marketing, business start-up, and business law.
Christian Weissmann
Christian Weissmann serves as Vice President and Branch Manager of City National Bank's Inland North County Branch. In this capacity, he is responsible for all branch sales and servicing related responsibilities, as well as managing branch staff.
Mr. Weissmann has over 10 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to joining City National Bank he served as Vice President and Branch Manager of Citibank in Carlsbad. At Citibank he was responsible for business development and client relationship management. Previously he was a Financial Sales Leader at Wachovia Bank, a Wells Fargo Company where he held multi-unit management responsibilities.
Mr. Weissmann attends University of Phoenix and is a member of the Delta Mu Delta International Honors Society. He is a licensed securities representative and is active in the community. Mr. Weissmann has volunteered at Teach Children to Save, Reading is the Way Up, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, and several other youth organizations.
