Winter 2013 NYSOM Course Offerings 

New Testament II
Instructor: Rev. J. Mark Lawson, Ph.D.

This course focuses on the epistolary material of the New Testament and the book of Revelation, asking the questions:

  • What factors led to the creation of our Christian New Testament?
  • What do the New Testament epistles teach us about the development of early Christianity?
  • How do these epistles function as "scripture" in our own time?

Students engage in the critical study of the text and are taught exegetical method. This is a blended course: for those at a distance, February's two sessions can be attended via web conferencing.

Saturdays, 9:30-3:00

  • January 19 (in Syracuse) - snow date, January 26
  • February 9*
  • February 23*
  • March 16 (in Syracuse) - snow date, March 23

*Those at a distance can participate via web conferencing, and if the weather is bad, everyone will participate via web conferencing.

 

New Testament I is a prerequisite for those who want to take this course for credit, but auditors are welcome, whether or not they've taken New Testament I.
