NEW FARMING ENDEAVOUR - FARM FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE - PROGRAMMATIC UPDATES

For the 2013 season SEMAP is teaming up with The Carrot Project to share new ideas on farm financing and loan programs, specifically for Southeastern MA farms.  Dorothy Suput, executive director of The Carrot Project will be on hand before the meeting to hold mini 'Ask the Expert' sessions to discuss farm finance questions.  Contact Sarah Cogswell to sign up for these 15-min one-on-one sessions to help start the conversation about your farm's equipment, buildings or other capital needs! (Limited availability.)

Our host, Urban Acres Farm is a new hydroponics operation in the heart of Fall River's historic mill district.  Utilizing and revamping old mill space, the entrepreneurial farmers at Urban Acres are growing traditional crops (with some surprises) in an untraditional setting.  Using dutch buckets, lights, and climate controlled settings the farm is able to grow product year round, offering CSA members with fresh tomatoes in the short days of December.  Brad Dean, president of Urban Acres will discuss a little about their philosophy and production methods while we view the 'experiment' floor of the farm operation.

And as always - there will be plenty of time for NETWORKING with new faces and old friends with plenty of local food!

Other reasons to attend:

  • Stay in touch with attending chefs and buyers, in case of future sales.
  • Networking Time!  Meet new growers, producers and buyers of local food.
  • Sample locally grown/produced products.
  • Learn more about SEMAP's programs and how you can be involved!

BRING A SAMPLE / SMALL DISH! If you have a local product available, please bring a sample to share with prospective buyers/suppliers.  (When registering, please indicate what you're sample will be.)
