Creating A Recreation/Leisure Ministry for Your Church

Led by Rev. Brian Overstreet, Minister of Recreation, Johns Creek UMC

(For Pastors, Church Leaders, Program Staff, Volunteers)

This workshop will focus on the ministry principles and structure implemented in the recreation ministry at Johns Creek UMC.  The workshop will welcome participants to engage with the facilitator and other participants to discuss different ideas for recreation ministry within the local church.  Participants are invited to bring their individual ministry contexts to discuss relevant opportunities for ministry

Teaching Through the Seasons

Using the Christian year as the framework for planning the Christian education formation ministry of the church ensures that the congregation is exposed to the full span of the Christian story.  Join us as we share and explore ideas and possibilities for our Sunday School programs.

Advanced Finance Committee

Led by Virginia McCahan, Retired Business Administrator, Dunwoody UMC

(For Treasurer, Finance Committee, Pastor, Finance Staff)

The “business” side of the church. Staying out of legal trouble, pros and cons of endowments, investment strategies in today’s market, neither a borrower nor a lender be (so he said). We will share our combined knowledge on these issues and review key resources available.

Basic Finance Committee

Led by Rev. Rene Watson, Minister of Discipleship and Certified Church Administrator, Alpharetta First United Methodist Church

(For Treasurer, Finance Committee, Pastor, Finance Staff)

The Church needs to have confidence in the people taking care of their finances.  Topics discussed include W-2 preparation, Clergy Taxes, Audits, Taxes in Georgia, Foundations, and so much more.

Trustees 101

Led by Tom Cook, Conference Chancellor

(For Pastors and Trustee Committees)

Trustees is one of the most important jobs in the church.  Tom will discuss the fiduciary responsibilities they have to the church they serve, and their responsibilities under The Book of Discipline.

Starting A Scouting/Civic Youth Serving Ministry in Your Church

Led by Jeff Glaze, Scout Leader at Kingswood UMC

(Christian Educators, Age-level Staffs, Volunteer Teachers and Leaders)

The United Methodist Church has a rich history of sponsorship and support of Scouting/Civic Youth Serving Ministry because many of our churches have found these programs to be a successful way to reach and minister to community youth and frequently reach un-churched families. Learn about active ministry through Scouting and Youth Civic Agencies. We will provide information on where to find resources, and how to get started.

Becoming a Disaster Prepared Church

Led by Mike Yoder

Learn how your churche can become a missionary for Christ by helping others in time of Disaster. The session will equip participants with the tools they will need to assist their church in becoming a Disaster Prepared Church. Participants will also learn how The North Ga. Conference can assist the local church in working with UMCOR and other agencies, such as VOAD, GEMA and FEMA. Being prepared is so important when a disaster strikes.
