2012 in Review: A Legal Update

From rapid-fire NLRB social media decisions to same sex marriage and recreational marijuana, 2012 brought significant changes to the employment law landscape.

Littler Mendelson employment law attorneys Pam Salgado and Deidra Nguyen will help you relive the good, the bad, and ugly and provide practical solutions and guidance for how the legal developments of 2012 will impact HR departments. Topics will include wage and hour, confidentiality of investigations, social media, at-will employment disclaimers, paid sick time, criminal background checks, and much much more!

    Speaker Bios:

    Correct Pam Salgado

Pam Salgado provides advice, counseling and litigation services to employers and high-level executives. She counsels employers with regard to employment-related laws and issues, including federal and state leave laws, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII,

Washington State Law Against Discrimination, The Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and the Older Workers Benefit Protection Act. She also assists clients in handbook reviews, training, leave requests, accommodation issues, investigations, coaching and discipline, severance negotiations, reductions-in-force, and terminations. She regularly defends employers in employment-related litigation and governmental proceedings, including claims for hostile work environment, discrimination, wage and hour, disability, failure to accommodate, retaliation, and wrongful discharge. She also has substantial experience prosecuting and defending trade secret and unfair competition claims.

    Correct Deidra

Deidra A. Nguyen advises employers of all types and sizes regarding various employment and personnel issues and claims, including non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, wage and overtime, workers’ compensation, unemployment, discrimination and harassment, and disability and accommodation. She helps clients stay current and compliant with an ever-changing legal landscape by drafting and revising employee handbooks, policies, and employment agreements. Deidra is a graduate of the 2011 Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber Leadership Program and proudly serves as a board member for the South King County Human Resources Association.

Note: Meal Deal Card holders must still register in advance (will be required to click on pay by PayPal but when you check out it will not ask for payment information) in order to provide us with an accurate headcount.

If you choose to attend a chapter meeting without registering prior to arrival you will need to pay at the door either with cash or by a personal or company check made out to SKCHRA.

If you must cancel, notify the meeting register via email: skchra@yahoo.com

Refunds are available for registration cancellations made prior to the pre-registration deadline.

Cancellations occurring within 3 business days of the meeting are not eligible for refunds, as the chapter must pay for the headcount guaranteed to our vendor. We suggest if you are not able to attend that you send another representative from your organization to the meeting.
