Holy Name Against Hunger Food Packing Event ~ Wednesday, Jan. 30 ~ 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Please Note:  Registration for this event has closed as of 2:30 p.m. on January 29.  If you have not yet registered and you are looking to find a spot in one of the packing shifts, please email Jennifer Ladendorf directly at jladendorf@hnoj.org and she will tell you what openings are available at each packing shift.

On January 30, 2013, Holy Name of Jesus will host a food packing event in the gym from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Impact Lives will facilitate this event.  This is the third year we are gathering as a community to pack food for starving families and children.

The goal of this service project is to help build awareness around those who have a greater need than us, and also to give our entire community an opportunity to work together through assembling and packing food.

Please Note:  We are gathering donations to help offset the cost of the food we will pack and ship.  We suggest that families signing up for a packing shift bring a $50 donation to this event.  Individuals are encouraged to bring a $20 donation.  Checks should be made to Holy Name of Jesus with Impact Lives written in the memo line.  Special "Meal Bags" will be distributed to Faith Formation Students on Wednesday, January 9.  These "Meal Bags" are intended to hold change or small bills the students gather in support of our event.  Students are encouraged to return their "Meal Bag" when they come to the event.  Additionally, participants may donate to this event when registering online.

Packing Shifts:  We will pack the food in 45 minute shifts.  Participants can sign up to pack at any of the following times:

• 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.
• 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
• 6:15 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Nursery Availablity:  We will have the Nursery open for the first two shifts of our food packing event.  If you have children under the age of five, we recommend signing up for either the 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. shift or the 4:45 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. shift.  Please contact Jennifer Ladendorf at 763.745.3483 or via email at jladendorf@hnoj.org and let her know that you need space reserved in the nursery for your younger child(ren).  The younger children can play in a safe area while you and your older children experience the food packing event together.

Wednesday Fine Dining will be open in the Good Samaritan Center from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.  The menu features chili and a baked potato bar.  Make this a special night and enjoy a delicious meal either before or after packaging food for others.

Core Volunteers Needed!

We are also seeking adults (ages 20 and up) to serve at this event as Core Volunteers.  Core Volunteers need to be at HNOJ from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on January 30.

Responsibilities of a Core Volunteer include:

    * Provide packing volunteers an orientation to their jobs
    * Help to direct, encourage and cheer on volunteers
    * Provide oversight to one packing station (10 volunteers)
    * Help to replenish supplies for your packing cell as they run low

Globally, one in six people do not have sufficient food.  Every day 18,000 children die of starvation.  Every box of food we pack at this event will feed 216 people; or a family of six for more than a month.
