2013 Trauma Symposium Objectives

  • Describe the pathophysiology of post-traumatic coagulopathy.
  • Demonstrate how TEGŪ is used to guide blood component therapy in various trauma scenarios.
  • Identify trauma patients whom may benefit from intervention in the angiography suite.
  • Describe the limitations of interventional radiology in the trauma patient.
  • Apply unique trauma resuscitation principles to the care of the severely injured child.
  • Predict hemodynamic deterioration in the severely injured child based of key physiological findings.
  • Explain the unique physiological differences between victims of penetrating injury vs. blunt trauma.
  • Describe current management techniques which benefit the penetrating injured patient.
  • Identify many uses of bedside ultrasound in trauma care in the prehospital and emergency settings.
  • Apply strategies for use of bedside ultrasound for victims of blunt and penetrating trauma.
  • Recognize the importance and ways of preventing oxygen desaturation during airway management.
  • Explain methods of optimizing success in traumatic airway management.
