Tim Campbell Gallery Reception

Thursday, February 7, 5-7 p.m.

Hannah Grimes Center - Suite C, Keene

Join us for a gallery reception for Keene’s award winning, traditional folk artist, Tim Campbell. Campbell is a self taught artist also known as an “outsider artist.” On view for the first time is Tim's rendition of Hannah Grimes with her farm animals in front of her home in Roxbury, NH. Campbell donated the painting to the Hannah Grimes Center. Campbell was selected by "Early American Life" magazine as the 2010 Best Traditional Artisan & listed in The Directory of Traditional American Crafts. According to the judges, Tim Campbell's handcrafted paintings and sculptures showed mastery of the art form, heritage techniques, and workmanship. His paintings and sculptures are in galleries throughout New England, Cape Cod, Atlanta and San Francisco including the American Folk Art Museum in New York City and the Boston Tea Party Museum. Additionally, his work is in private collections nationally and internationally.

Campbell’s works are on view and for sale at the Hannah Grimes Center Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. through the end of February.

Campbell’s multi-dimensional art is created by ‘upcycling’. ‘Upcycling’ is the process of converting waste materials into products of greater value. THis two dimensional works often feature portraits of landscapes, pets, religious and historical icons. They are painted on canvas with a recycled wood frame or entirely on recycled wood.  His sculptural pieces are created entirely from recycled wood and metal. His painted furniture uses vintage pieces which gives them their primitive appearance. Each piece is unique and one-of-a-kind. His muse, Jack Russell Terrier, Otis Campbell, named after the character on the Andy Griffith Show, is a favorite subject for his art. According to fans, his work is thought provoking and humorous and has taken folk art to a new level.
