More about Active Community Environments

Active Community Environments (ACEs) are places where people of all ages and abilities have the opportunity to live, work and play in a safe and inviting place which enables physically active recreation and transportation, particularly walking and biking. These places:

  • Support and promote physical activity for all people
  • Have sidewalks, safe roads for biking, multi-use paths and trails, parks and open spaces, and facilities for recreation
  • Have quality connections between homes, stores, workplaces, schools, downtowns and/or village centers

ACEs help people to be more physically active. They create a vibrant community atmosphere that enables healthy lifestyles, social interaction, environmental quality and economic prosperity.

More information about Active Community Environments is available here.

Who is organizing the conference?

This event is brought to you by a collaborative effort between the Oxford County Active Community Environment Team (ACET), and the Western Maine Community Transformation Grant (CTG) Program. The ACET group, a part of the Oxford County Wellness Collaborative, is a dedicated core of individuals from across Oxford County who are working to improve opportunities for active living. The Western Maine CTG Program, funded by the CDC, is a public health partnership that is also devoted to increasing physical activity in Oxford, Franklin, and Androscoggin counties.

Lead coordination for this event is being provided by Healthy Oxford Hills, a Healthy Maine Partnership and a project of Stephens Memorial Hospital.
