Community Emergency Response Team Hdr

Serve DC’s Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program trains citizen volunteers to be better prepared for emergencies in their communities. CERT training is free and open to anyone who lives, works or congregates in the District.



In the event of an emergency, CERT members provide critical support to first responders and assistance to victims and can help organize spontaneous volunteers at disaster sites. CERT members also help with non-emergency projects that improve public safety.

Classes include:

  • Disaster Preparedness 
  • Fire Safety
  • Medical Operations & First Aid
  • Search & Rescue
  • Disaster Psychology
  • Terrorism

Please note: Unless listed otherwise, CERT classes are held from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

  • October 21-25: 1 Judiciary Square, 441 4th Street NW, 11th Floor
  • December 2-6: 1 Judiciary Square, 441 4th Street NW, 11th Floor

*Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, there is no general session CERT training in November.
